Short answer
Enter your monthly contribution, age, children and tax rates. The calculator applies the basic subsidy, child subsidy and starter bonus under sections 84 to 86 of the German Income Tax Act as in force from 2027, the extra tax relief from the automatic comparison by the tax office, and the result compared with an ETF savings plan. The assumptions of this calculation
Statutory values: basic subsidy 50 % up to 360 €, 25 % up to 1,800 €; child subsidy at most 300 € per child; bonus 200 € under 25; minimum contribution 120 € (sections 84 to 86 EStG new version, BGBl. 2026 I No. 156). ETF side: flat-rate tax 25 % plus 5.5 % solidarity surcharge, partial exemption 30 %. Health insurance: 14.0 % plus additional contribution 2.9 % (2026 average), long-term care 3.6 % or 4.2 %.

How the calculator works, and what it leaves out
- Nominal values: all amounts in the table are euros at the time of retirement. The row "in today's purchasing power" converts them back with your inflation assumption.
- Same logic on both sides: both options get the same return and are charged their running costs. Differences come only from subsidies, tax relief, taxation and health insurance.
- Simplified taxation: the account's whole capital is taxed at your retirement tax rate; for the ETF, the gain after partial exemption is taxed at the flat rate plus solidarity surcharge, without saver's allowance, advance lump sum and church tax.
- Health insurance: for voluntarily insured people the calculator deducts contributions on the full account payout, on the ETF only on the gain. The first is the cautious reading, the second my assessment; the contribution ceiling is ignored.
- Not included: guaranteed products, acquisition costs, transfers, annuity factors, changes in law and rates before retirement.
- Privacy: the calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent.
